Ohio & Erie Canal
Towpath Tunnel north of Bolivar
Looking north
At the time of this photo, this tunnel had recently been built through the fill of the Norfork & Western Railroad to connect up the Towpath Trail. Originally, there was a bridge over the towpath and canal here. The abutments for that bridge are still visible in the fill. While the canal prism is still blocked by the fill, the prism is intact on both sides of the crossing. An abutment for an earlier bridge on a slightly different alignment is visible on the berm side a little north of this site.
