This is the only lock on the Fox River and allows navigation from Algonquin Dam (River Mile 82) through the Fox River Lakes to the Wisconsin border (River Mile 115). In the 1960's, there was a proposal to make the river navigable from the Illinois River at Ottawa, IL to the lakes. But, only two dams and no locks were built.
