Lock 40
Allentown
View is into lock. Water is spilling over a concrete weir in the upper end. The iron pieces projecting from the water in the middle of the lower end are iron of the lower miter gates. The wood above water has rotted away, but the gates below the water remain in the mitered position.

Railroad leads west from Allentown yard to right to Reading

Lehigh Canal
Lock 40 runs from left to right with a park entrance bridge over its lower end at the stop sign. To the left of the lock, the canal curves north under the railroad bridge. The access road to the park runs under the locomotive. The locomotives are heading west to cross the river towards Reading on the former Reading Railroad route. Just to the right of  the locomotives is the junction where the former CNJ, originally Lehigh & Susquehanna, route curves north to follow the east bank of the river upstream.
