These are the cut down abutments for the towpath bridge. The Lateral Canal passed between these and is filled in beyond.
The stone building in poor condition was built by the CCC in the 1930s.
The Lateral Canal passed through this building and the metal building behind.

The Lateral Canal goes south along the left edge of Canal St.
The lock was located where W. Superior St. crosses Canal St. and in alignment with the towpath bridge.
